Following on from my recent post on the 'Race to Net Carbon' I have read a very interesting article on how the construction industry has an important role to play in meeting the UN Sustainability goals. It addresses the climate and environmental issues as well as including a handy high level checklist that supports the sectors approach.

The check list covers:

  • Unified Methodology
  • Embracing Collaboration
  • Ecosystem of innovation
  • Sharing of data

Both Pick Everard and Perfect Circle have signed the Climate Change and Biodiversity Declaration. This is an important step for the whole industry in meeting the environmental needs. It addresses:

  • Unified Methodology
    • Establishing climate and biodiversity mitigation principles as the key measure of our industry's success
  • Embracing Collaboration
    • Collaborate with contractors and clients to further reduce construction waste
    • Evaluate all new projects to contribute positively to mitigating climate breakdown, and encourage our clients to adopt this approach
  • Ecosystem of innovation
    • Advocating for faster change in our industry towards regenerative design practices
    • Adopt more regenerative design principles with the aim of designs and urbanism that goes beyond the standard of net zero carbon in use
    • Include life cycle costing, whole life carbon modelling and post occupancy evaluation as part of our basic scope of work
  • Sharing of data
    • Share knowledge and research
