Liverpool has unveiled plans to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games, in a bid that will include a partnership with Manchester (2002 host).
The offering comprises a mixture of new and existing facilities, with the centre piece being the proposed Everton Stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.
Liverpool 2022 Bid Chairman Brian Barwick said,
“Some of the other eye catching plans, such as the dynamic new pool in the docks and the creative approach to working with Everton FC’s new state of art stadium will set the bar for how major games leave a real and tangible legacy."
Hosting the 2002 games helped to project Manchester forward and did provide a basis for accelerated growth. It would be a real indictment of the north west if the Bid is successful and should bring further positivity to the region.
