We need more homes. We need to improve the condition of the existing housing stock. We have ambitious targets. We don't have much time.
And all the above without sacrificing the quality and and sustainability of these new homes; otherwise we are missing the point.
We need leadership. UK-GBC has produced a Green Paper to move this forward. Great opportunities at local level to take this forward.
I attended just last week the launch of a new framework that aims to develop communities with whole life sustainability at its core. Promising.
The paper challenges the widespread perception that little or nothing can be done by local authorities in the current political climate. Working with progressive developers, it highlights how local government can play a leadership role in delivering sustainability in the built environment. It also explores the potential for cities to take new powers to address sustainability in the built environment through their devolution deals.
