It's still a pipe dream, but Hyperloop, the hyper-speed transportation system that uses a vacuum tube to propel passenger pods at mind blowing speeds, could be cheaper than HS2.
With the latest NAO report saying timescales and budgets for HS2 are unrealistic and need to be amended, should we be looking at this alternative technology for HS2 or even HS3 (the northern powerhouse crossrail)?
Hyperloop One said that the cost of building just one kilometre (0.6 miles) for the Hyperloop network would be around £32 million ($42 million/38 million euros). This, the company claims, is less than current high speed rail networks like the London to Birmingham HS2 route that is costing around £85.3 million ($110 million/100 million euros) per kilometre (0.6 miles).
